Overland (iOS)
Overland is a free location publisher for iOS, designed for efficient background tracking with fine-grained controls. Recommended for iOS power users who want precise tuning.
Install
Search the App Store for Overland.
Configure
In Overland → Settings → Settings:
- Receiver Endpoint URL: paste the per-org URL from your admin GPS sources page (it includes a token in the query string).
- Tracking Enabled: on.
- Send Interval: 1 minute is a reasonable default. Lower for active sports.
- Desired Accuracy: Best for foot/cycle, Hundred Meters for road trips (saves battery).
- Activity Type: matches your typical use — Other Navigation for hiking, Fitness for running, Automotive Navigation for driving.
Battery
Overland is more aggressive than OwnTracks by default; expect 8–12% battery drain per day at one-minute intervals.
Offline behavior
Overland queues unsent points to local storage and retries on the next network availability. Buffer is large enough to handle days of disconnection.
Troubleshooting
- Points not arriving: check that the URL is exactly the one shown in the admin (including the token query parameter).
- Background tracking stops: ensure Always location permission is granted and Background App Refresh is enabled.
